If you’re looking for where to go candlepin bowling in Vermont, I’m afraid you don’t have too many options… but you do have three. While the state of Vermont used to have many candlepin bowling alleys, the unfortunate reality is that almost all of them have closed in recent years.

If you’re looking to get your bowl on in the Green Mountain state, you may actually need to head next door to New Hampshire or down to Massachusetts instead. But, if you will indeed be in the areas of Wilmington, Canaan, or Springfield, you still have the chance to get your bowling fix. Check out the details below for where you can go candlepin bowling in Vermont.

Where to go candlepin bowling in Vermont

Here’s the full list of places at which you can go candlepin bowling in the state of Vermont. (Sadly, it’s not as extensive as it used to be.) Click on the name to jump to that section or just scroll through the post to see them all.

  1. North Star Bowl – Wilmington
  2. Springfield Parks & Recreation – Springfield
  3. Wayne’s Lanes – Canaan

Map of Vermont candlepin bowling alleys

Here are those three lonely candlepin bowling alleys on a handy map. Click on the star ⭑ next to the map’s title to save it in your Google Maps. To use, open Google Maps on your phone, click “Saved” at the bottom, then click “Maps.”

All the candlepin bowling alleys in Vermont

Below are the three spots where you can go candlepin bowling in Vermont, arranged in alphabetical order. All information is accurate (to the best of my ability) as of January 2025.

1. North Star Bowl

North Star Bowl (part of North Star Pizza) has been open in Wilmington, Vermont since 1979. They offer a handful of candlepin bowling lanes as well as an on-site restaurant for pizzas, wings, burger, and more. They host birthday parties and even have a mini-golf course as well.

Though they don’t have a website and their Facebook page hasn’t been updated in years, their posted hours are 11:30AM – 10PM, 7 days a week. Here’s where you can find them:

  • Address: 179 Vermont Rte 100, Wilmington, VT
  • Phone: (802) 464-5148
  • Facebook: North Star Bowl

2. Springfield Parks & Recreation

One more option for candlepin bowling in Vermont is the Springfield Parks and Rec department. They offer 6 lanes of candlepin bowling for rent, with discounts for Springfield residents. Here’s where you can find them:

  • Address: 139 Main St., Springfield, VT
  • Phone: (802) 885-2727
  • Website: springfieldvtparksandrec.com
  • Facebook: Springfield Rec

3. Wayne’s Lanes

With even less information is the third of the three candlepin bowling alleys in Vermont—Wayne’s Lanes in Canaan. (Part of Wayne’s Lanes & Jo’s Grill.)

There’s no information to be found on this place, so you’ll just have to head there yourself and find out what it’s all about. (And report back if you do!) I know they have candlepin bowling and food, but that’s about it. Though I do think their Google reviews tell you all you need to know…

Here’s where you can find them, allegedly:

  • Address: 56 Gale St. Canaan, VT
  • Phone: (802) 266-8833

Vermont candlepin bowling alleys that no longer exist

If you came here for information on a particular bowling alley you haven’t heard about in a while, here are some of the candlepin bowling alleys in Vermont that have closed their doors for good:

  • Derby Candlepin Lanes – Formerly located at 3319 US Route 5 in Derby
  • Up Your Alley – Formerly located at 75 Springfield Plaza in Springfield
  • Upper Valley Lanes and Games – Formerly located at 94 Bowling Ln. in White River Junction

Where else to go candlepin bowling

There used to be Candlepin bowling in downtown Rutland, Vermont – Capital Lanes, if my memory serves (It’s been sixty years!) They had, I think, eight lanes of Ten pin downstairs, and eight lanes of Candlepin upstairs.

It’s too bad so many of the old lanes have closed.
