20. York Beach Bowling
York Beach Bowling (if that’s even your real name) has been a York Beach institution for what feels like forever. If you’re a regular visitor to the Short Sands area, you’ve certainly seen the giant “Bowling” building to the left of the Fun-O-Rama. (Which, by the way, the bowling alley is in no way associated with.)
I’ve bowled here myself, but as far as online information I can give you about York Beach Bowling, I’m afraid there isn’t any. No website, no phone number, no online presence of any sort. I’m not even convinced it has a real name. (It’s owned by the same family that owns the nearby Surfside restaurant and Joan’s Beach and Gift Shop.) I’m afraid you’ll just have to stop by yourself to see if/when it’s open.
As far as the bowling is concerned, there are 6 candlepin bowling lanes, the likes of which have been warped pretty noticeably over time by its proximity to the ocean. They have paper score sheets hanging on the wall for you and, needless to say, it’s pretty basic here. Whatever you do, don’t count this towards your average.
