Where to go candlepin bowling in Ohio

I usually put a whole list of bowling alleys here for you to sift through, but in this case it’s just the one:

  1. Wyoming Civic Center (Wyoming, Ohio)

And here’s that one lonely candlepin bowling alley on a handy map. Click on the star ⭑ next to the map’s title to save it in your Google Maps. To use, open Google Maps on your phone, click “Saved” at the bottom, then click “Maps.”

The following entry contains the basic location and contact information, as well a few more need-to-know tidbits. All information is accurate (to the best of my ability) as of January 2025.

1. Wyoming Civic Center

The confusingly named Wyoming Civic Center is technically located in Wyoming, Ohio, but really it’s less than a 20-minute drive north of Cincinnati. So, let’s just say it’s in Cincinnati, shall we?

The Wyoming Civic Center has quite a long history, with the current bowling alley dating back to at least 1949. (But no one seems to know how candlepin even got to Ohio so long ago, hmm.) The most recent renovation to its 6 candlepin bowling lanes was in 2017 when it received some brand new wooden floors and artwork.

The main thing you need to know about candlepin bowling in Ohio though is: the Wyoming Civic Center isn’t regularly open to the public. It currently functions as an event hall where it hosts birthday parties, rehearsal dinners, corporate events, and the like. But, they do have special events every now and then that feature open candlepin bowling. (Follow their FB page for updates, or just host your own birthday party there, duh.) Here’s where you can find them:

  • Address: 1 Worthington Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Phone: (513) 821-5423
  • Website: wyomingciviccenter.com
  • Facebook: Wyoming Civic Center

HI Ashley. Thank you for this wonderful information about Candlepin bowling. My name is Bob Parrella, President of Paramount Industries, Inc. I have been in the bowling business for over 70 years and have a background in Candlepin bowling. If you would ever like to meet to discuss Candlepins and other forms of bowling, I would enjoy a conversation. Keep up the good work.

So a candlepin alley does exist outside of the northeast! I first learned about candlepin online a few years ago and loved playing it when I visited Boston last year. This one in Ohio is closer to me, so it’d be fun to rent it out and just go ham for a couple hours. (It’d probably be cheaper to just fly to Boston and play, but it’d be easier to bring friends along to Ohio)
